Young Men, Do Not Make a Woman Your Life Project Body Go Tell You
By ECOWAS Reporter
There is nothing wrong with loving a woman, supporting your partner or wanting to build a meaningful relationship. But young men should be careful not to turn a relationship into their entire life mission.
A woman can be an important part of your life, but she should not become your life project.
Your life should have a purpose that exists beyond your relationship.
Build Yourself Before Building Around Someone Else
One of the biggest mistakes a young man can make is putting all his energy into making a relationship work while neglecting his own development.
Your twenties and thirties can be valuable years for building your career, developing skills, improving your finances, taking care of your health and discovering who you really are.
A relationship should complement that journey—not replace it.
If your entire identity becomes “her boyfriend,” “her husband” or “the man who will make her happy,” you risk losing sight of your own ambitions.
Love Her, But Don't Lose Yourself
Healthy relationships require sacrifice, compromise and support. However, sacrifice should not mean abandoning everything that makes you who you are.
Keep your friendships.
Pursue your career.
Develop your talents.
Take care of your physical and mental wellbeing.
Maintain your personal goals.
A strong relationship should allow two people to grow together while remaining individuals.
Don't Try to "Fix" Someone
Another dangerous mindset is believing that you can completely transform another person.
You may encourage your partner, support her ambitions and stand beside her during difficult moments. But you cannot force someone to change if they don't want to.
Don't spend years trying to turn someone into the person you imagined they could become.
People have their own choices, values and responsibilities.
Sometimes the most mature thing a man can do is accept that someone is not compatible with the life he wants.
Your Financial Success Shouldn't Depend on a Relationship
Young men should also avoid making financial decisions simply to impress a woman.
Buying expensive gifts you cannot afford, taking on unnecessary debt, abandoning your financial plans or constantly trying to prove your worth through money can put you under enormous pressure.
Build financial stability because your future matters, not simply because you want someone to stay with you.
A woman who genuinely loves and respects you should appreciate your effort and character—not require you to destroy your financial future to demonstrate your commitment.
Have a Mission Outside Your Relationship
Every man should have something meaningful that he is pursuing.
It could be:
Building a successful business
Advancing in a career
Learning a valuable skill
Supporting his family
Improving his education
Building financial independence
Creating something that benefits others
Becoming physically and mentally stronger
When you have a purpose, your relationship becomes part of your life rather than the whole of it.
Don't Beg Someone to Choose You
One of the hardest lessons in relationships is understanding that love cannot be forced.
If someone repeatedly disrespects you, manipulates you or makes it clear that they don't want the relationship, endlessly trying harder may not change the outcome.
Know your value.
A relationship should involve mutual effort. You shouldn't have to spend your entire life convincing someone that you deserve their love.
Be a Partner, Not a Saviour
There is an important difference between being a supportive partner and becoming someone's saviour.
You can help your partner through difficult moments without taking responsibility for every problem in her life.
You can encourage her without controlling her.
You can provide support without destroying yourself.
And you can love someone deeply while understanding that their life is ultimately their responsibility.
Choose a Woman Who Wants to Build With You
The goal shouldn't be to avoid relationships. Instead, young men should learn to choose relationships that contribute positively to their lives.
Find someone who respects your ambitions.
Someone who supports your growth.
Someone who communicates honestly.
Someone who is willing to make sacrifices for the relationship too.
Someone who wants to build a future with you, rather than expecting you to build a future entirely for her.
Your Life Is Bigger Than Your Relationship
At the end of the day, relationships can change. People can leave. Circumstances can change. Even the person you thought you would spend your entire life with may eventually become part of your past.
That's why you should build a life that remains meaningful regardless of your relationship status.
Love deeply, but don't disappear inside love.
Support your partner, but don't abandon yourself.
Build together, but continue building yourself.
And most importantly, never make another person the sole purpose of your existence.
A woman can be part of your life's journey—but she should not be the entire destination.
