Nigerian National in Liberia Gets 24 Years Imprisonment for Cocaine Trafficking in Liberia
A Fifth Judicial Circuit Court in Liberia in October 8 2026 sentenced a Nigerian national John Chimezie Mba to 24 years in prison without parole or suspension for cocaine trafficking in Liberia, according to the official statement released by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) issued Friday, October 9, 2026.
The sentence was handed down on October 8 by Her Honor Victoria Worlobah Duncan after Mba pleaded guilty to three drug-related Charges against him under Liberia’s 2014 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The court imposed 10 years for unlicensed possession of controlled drugs, seven years for transportation and sale, and an additional seven years for illicit trafficking. The sentences will run consecutively, bringing his total prison term to 24 years. Mba will be deported to Nigeria after serving his Time.
According to the LDEA, agency officers intercepted Mba, who resides in Sierra Leone, at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry after investigators became suspicious of his behavior as he attempted to enter Liberia.
While in detention, Mba reportedly complained of stomach pain before excreting 66 tubes of cocaine, which authorities subsequently recovered. The seized narcotics were valued at US$39,204, equivalent to LRD 7,056,720.
The LDEA said the prosecution and sentencing demonstrate its continued efforts to dismantle cross-border drug trafficking networks and enforce Liberia’s drug control laws.
The agency added that the judgment underscores its commitment to holding drug trafficking offenders accountable and preventing the movement of illegal narcotics across Liberian borders.
