The US-Israel war against Iran has entered its sixth month, with no clear end in sight. The conflict is increasingly centred on the Strait of Hormuz, economic sanctions, energy supplies and efforts to restart diplomacy.

1. 🇮🇷 Iran Calls for Muslim Unity Against US and Israel

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called on Muslim countries, particularly Gulf states, to unite against the United States and Israel.

In a message released today, Khamenei urged greater cooperation among Muslim nations and criticised governments he believes are cooperating with Iran's adversaries.

2. 🚢 Strait of Hormuz Remains the Biggest Flashpoint

The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the conflict. Iran says the waterway remains effectively closed and that it is in no hurry to reopen it.

The US, meanwhile, says it has helped commercial vessels navigate the strait and has sought to restore shipping through the crucial energy route.

Around 400 ships and 6,000 seafarers have reportedly remained stranded or trapped in the wider Gulf region, according to the International Maritime Organization.

3. 🛢️ Oil Markets Remain Under Pressure

The continuing disruption around Hormuz is keeping global energy markets on edge. The waterway normally carries a huge share of global oil supplies, meaning prolonged disruption could affect fuel prices, shipping costs and inflation worldwide.

The war has already produced significant economic consequences, although the global economy has so far shown greater resilience than initially feared.

4. 💰 US Intensifies Economic Pressure on Tehran

Washington continues to increase economic pressure on Iran through sanctions.

Iranian officials have condemned the latest measures while insisting that Tehran will continue to use both diplomacy and military defence to protect its interests.

Iran's economy is under severe strain, with President Masoud Pezeshkian reporting a major decline in foreign trade and inflation reaching extremely high levels.

5. 🤝 Diplomatic Efforts Continue Despite the War

Despite the hostile rhetoric, diplomatic channels have not completely closed.

Iraq has offered to act as a bridge between Tehran and Washington, while Qatar and Pakistan have also been involved in efforts to encourage dialogue. The central obstacles remain sanctions, the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's nuclear programme and security guarantees.

6. 🇺🇸🇮🇱 Six Months of War Has Taken a Heavy Toll

A Reuters assessment of the conflict's first six months says the war has evolved into a prolonged stalemate.

The fighting has weakened Iran militarily and economically and disrupted oil supplies, while the US and Israel have faced growing political, military and economic costs. The strikes have also delayed Iran's nuclear ambitions, although uncertainty remains because international inspectors have limited access.

7. 🇵🇸 Gaza Conflict Continues Alongside the Iran War

The wider Middle East crisis remains volatile. An Israeli strike in central Gaza today killed two Palestinians, including a three-year-old boy, according to Palestinian health officials.

Israel said the other person killed was a Hamas militant involved in planning attacks.
